ImageWith a wide variety of beautiful beaches from white shell sands to pebble shores and almost always empty, Uig & Bernera is a surfer's paradise. The area is classed as having the most consistent surf in Europe and has some world-class beach and reef breaks.

It is important to beware that some beaches have strong currents and rips in certain swells and if you are not experienced you should always check with the local surf shop or coastguard. Never surf alone or on a beach you don't know if you are inexperienced.

To figure out where to go, as a starting point have a look at our page all about Uig & Bernera's beautiful beaches - follow this link.

Click here to go to our Weather section: mid-way down the page, you will find a link to Magic Seaweed - a fantastic resource which gives detailed current swell conditions and forecasts for one of Uig's best surfing beaches, Mangersta.

Mangersta is definitely for experienced surfers only, serious rips make it a very dangerous and intense break - but outstanding if the swell is right. The beach is in a dramatic setting with rocky cliffs and views to St Kilda on a clear day.

Cliff has been rated by former Scottish Surfing Champion, Ian Masson as ‘the best he has ever surfed.' The beach catches swells from the North West and bigger swells from the South. South winds are offshore, and there are strong rip currents. To read some comments and see photos of Cliff on Beachwizard.com, click here.
