Role of Uig Community Council
Uig Community Council is a group of people
who have a genuine interest in their local community and a desire to protect
and enhance local interests.
- We work to safeguard and promote the area's best interests.
- We work with others to improve the community.
- We have access to funding for local projects.
- We have responsibility for the community skips and the
recycling skips.
- We access funding for the community bus.
The local authority has a duty to consult
Uig Community Council about all issues affecting our area and Uig Community
Council is regularly asked to comment on a range of issues such as:
- the local environment
- local planning applications
- local plans
- community planning
One of our responsibilities is to seek and
take note of the views of local residents. If you want to express your opinion
or ask a question, then please contact the Clerk of Uig Community Council.

The Community Council meets regularly at
Uig Community Centre and the meetings are advertised in the shop and the
Community Centre. These meetings are open to all local residents and members of
the public can raise matters of concern. Archived and current agendas and minutes will be published on this website in the near future.

Projects
Uig Community Council has been involved in
a variety of projects over the years.
There has been an ongoing commitment to the
older members of the community with the provision of an annual dinner and
summer trips which have been organised and funded by the Community Council.
Uig Community Council has been able to
access funding for other groups within the community such as the Community
Centre Association and the Community shop. Other recent projects include:-
- The commission of two giant Uig
Chessman carvings, by wood carver Stephen Hayward, now located at Ardroil Sands and Uig Community Centre.
- Attemps to improve access to the bridge on Uig Bay at Borronish
- Tree planting at the school
- Improvements to the play park at Uig Community Centre
- Mealista - Stone Circle
- Intpretative board at Baile na Cille cemetry
- Picnic benches at Cliff
